Showcasing Albion's Treasured Waterways, Riverside Parks, and Scenic Trails.
Join us on Saturday, August 2, 2025 as we celebrate Albion's wonderful rivers, riverside parks, and scenic trails. The day's events will include stewardship, hospitality, recreation, and celebration of community.
This celebration of community will be the culmination of months of work to clean our prized Kalamazoo River of litter, trash, and other debris. The greatest feat will be the clearing of woody debris to make navigable lanes to improve passive recreation on and along the Kalamazoo River. When completed, one will be able to paddle the approximate 123 miles from the campus of Albion college to the open waters of Lake Michigan without having to portage around the collection of fallen trees, logs, and branches.
The work began with an assessment of needs, to determine the enormity of the challenge of clearing woody obstructions from the campus of Albion to our city's western border. See below photos taken of our first Spring 2025 on-river assessment. It capture's a snapshot of some of the work needed, but more importantly the remarkable beauty of Albion from a river's vantage.
