EcoTour - Take In The Varied Beauty of Our Waterways.
We take a year-round, community-wide, approach toward waterways stewardship. Since our start in November 2022 it has been our practice to work with business and industry, schools and churches, civic and social clubs, local governments, individuals and families, to protect, care for, and improve our treasured and vulnerable waterways.
Through the wondrous work of thousands of volunteers our Capital City Region's rivers have been transformed. We now present Michigan's most scenic, varied, and pleasant, urban waterways destination.
Many report having never spent time on rivers before. It is sad as it is often our waterways that gave our cities or states its reason for being. It may have been a primary source for travel, a souce of power to fuel our Industrial Revolution, a means to harvest vast timber, or used to transport food and conduct trade.

To encourage people to take in our capital city region's rivers, to see first hand their varied and scenic beauty, and the need for ongoing stewardship, we offer EcoTours. Its purpose is to have area residents "Reimagine, Rediscover, Reconnect."
The Red Cedar River offers scenic views of Michigan State's campus, the canopy covered stretch just past campus reminds you of areas up north. Many tout this area as being popular for fishing. The lowlands through Potter Park Zoo is a haven for wildlife and waterfowl. Our Grand River above and below Moorse Dam provides two distinct recreation opportunities. Above the dam it is popular for motorized boating, competitive rowing, and paddle boat tours. Below the dam the shallow waters ideal for fishing just below. |
Then the Grand River makes its way through downtown, giving you one of the most scenic urban stretches in Michigan. Here the Grand is framed by tall urban buildings, riverside parks, and our prized Lansing River Trail. When you portage around the Brenke Fish Ladder you are greeted by an urban destination that's ever changing until you reach the hairpin turn at Tecumseh Park. When the river heads west, taking you to Lake Michigan, you experience the vastness expected of Michigan's largest river.
Similar surprises await for those wanting to paddle the areas of Kalamazoo, Jackson, and now Marshall. What each has in common is its unique charm, welcoming you for the first time and begging you to return, and often. You will also see firsthand the need for us to steward our treasured and vulnerable rivers. If we don't, who will. Imagine the consequences if we fail. |
If you would like to experience our scenic and varied waterways and possibly conduct a little stewardship, let us take you on an EcoTour. You too will see how blessed we are and want to do more to protect, care for, and improve our treasured and vulnerable waterways. Like many before you, you too may become inspired and wish to become an Adopt A River partner, to claim a stretch river a responsibility of your own, or share with your family, coworkers, or friends at your civic and social club.
Like those before you, you will be in awe of the beauty of our waterways. You will return and possibly often. If you wish to take in an EcoTour and experience the varied and scenic beauty of our waterways, drop us a note (see below). We'd love to take you out and its FREE!
