KARING FOR THE KZOO 2026 | THE FALL EVENT
A KALAMAZOO RIVER AND KALAMAZOO RIVER VALLEY TRAIL CLEANUP
Another Must-Attend High-Impact, Community-Wide, Stewardship Event!
SKARING FOR THE KZOO26 - THE FALL EVENT
Another WMU Student Organization Led Event!
Date: Sunday, October 18, 2026
Time: 11AM - 2PM
Location: Event HQ at Mayors Riverfront Park (located behind The Kalamzoo Growlers baseball stadium)
Our work goes beyond unveiling cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable waterways, riverside parks, and adjacent river trails; we unveil community spirit and civic pride. Here in the Greater Kalamazoo Area, we have much to boast about and celebrate!
Since our first Kalamazoo project in early spring of 2024, we have managed 14 waterway stewardship projects in the area. In March of 2024, we led the largest volunteer-led stewardship project in Kalamazoo’s history. On a chilly April morning, hundreds of volunteers came together to clear thousands of pounds of litter and trash from the Kalamazoo River, stretching from Comstock to Parchment.
In the spring of 2026, we completed a project spanning two years. It was the largest volunteer initiative of its type, eradicating invasive flora along a 1.5-mile stretch of the Kalamazoo River, encompassing the riverside stretches of Mayors' Riverfront Park, Red Arrow Golf Course, and Verburg Park.

This fall, during a time of expected peak autumn color, we will be returning to conduct our sixth Kalamazoo Area community-wide waterway stewardship event. Our focus will be cleaning up litter and other unsightly debris from on and along the Kalamazoo River. Event headquarters will be at Mayors' Riverfront Park, located behind the Kalamazoo Growlers baseball stadium.
Western Michigan University and its students have played a huge part in the success of many of our events. This event is being led in partnership with WMU Community Engaged Learning, an academic teaching strategy that connects coursework with real-world service to address community-identified needs. This will be another fun, community-wide, high-impact stewardship event that you won't want to miss. Join us! Bring your family, friends, or neighbors, or make this a team-building event for your school, place of work, or worship. When done, you too will experience the sense of pride and joy knowing you created an impact, making the Kalamazoo River, its riverside parks, and adjacent river trails cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable to use. Everything needed will be provided, including trash bags, trash pickers, nitrile gloves, bottled water, snacks, and more. We encourage you to bring your own work gloves for a greater level of protection and comfort. If you have any questions or wish to support in other ways, drop us a note. We would love to hear from you: E: [email protected] P: (952) 239-3943 |
