Our Twice-yearly Capital City's Rivers, Riverside Parks, and Lansing River Trail Cleanup is More Than Stewardship. It's a Celebration of Community.

PictureEarly event partners and sponsors.
Next spring marks the seventh community-wide Lansing Rivers and River Trail Cleanup. This event, typically held on the first weekend in June, has been split into two events, allowing us to improve focus and create an even greater impact:
  • Greenway: Saturday, April 18
  • Blueway: Saturday, June 6

This early spring event takes place during a time when tree branches remain largely bare and when the first pops of color are small and low-growing. This will allow our volunteers to much more clearly see, access, and clear those pockets of litter and trash that otherwise may not be possible. Our area of focus will be along the Red Cedar River from west of the MSU campus to the confluence of the Grand River, and the Grand River from Waverly Road to at least the most northern stretch of the Lansing River Trail in Dietrich Park.

In June, when river levels have lowered and slowed, we will return and add the waterways stewardship component. This will again take place on the first Saturday of June, with our event headquarters at Potter Park Zoo. We will celebrate the culmination of this spring’s work and the three full years prior, which have led to our now presenting Michigan’s most scenic, varied, and enjoyable urban waterways destination.

When done, we expect to be able to declare our Capital City’s rivers, riverside parks, and adjoining stretches of the Lansing River Trail officially cleared and cleaned. This then sets the stage for greater focus on parks and river trail beautification efforts.

We like to think we do much more than unveil cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable waterways; we unveil community spirit and civic pride. Here in our Capital City Region, we have much to boast about and much to celebrate. In appreciation of each volunteer's efforts, each will receive a FREE admission pass to Potter Park Zoo, good for Saturday, June 6. More volunteer appreciation news will be shared soon.

On this same day, in front of Potter Park Zoo’s main entrance, area conservation, environmental, and civic organizations will be exhibiting. There will be hospitality, recreation, entertainment, and other special events to celebrate our volunteers' wonderful work and our Capital City’s wondrous rivers, riverside parks, and Lansing River Trail.

Come join us, whether as an individual, family, or company team-building event, and be part of this community-wide celebration. Simply scroll to the bottom of this page to enter your contact information and pledge your support. We look forward to seeing you soon.
