Burchard Park Area Cleanup

Thursday, April 24, 2025   4PM - 7PM
Picture
Along the east edge of Burchard and Turner Parks there is an abandoned railroad that runs for two blocks from the area beginning near Brenke Fish Ladder to E. Saginaw Street. This area has largely been neglected and there is a large collection of litter and trash that detracts from Lansing Parks and River Trail experience. Too often this unwanted debris finds its way into the river.

We are asking for your help to clear this area. We are conducting a Grand River Riverside Area Pop-Up event next Thursday, April 24, beginning at 4PM. We are seeking 10-12 volunteers. To make quick work of it, 20 or more would be great.

We will provide trash pickers, trash bags, metal and steel rakes, bottled water, snacks, and a couple of wagons to help pull supplies. We encourage you to bring your own gloves for comfort and extra layer of protection.

Because the biggest concentration of litter and trash is nearer to E. Saginaw Street, we will be meeting at the parking located at the northeast corner of E. Saginaw Street and the Grand River. If we have more volunteers, our secondary parking spot will be at the northeast corner of E. Oakland Avenue and the Grand River.

Come for an hour, two, or until the job is done. In appreciation of your help each volunteer will receive a FREE Lugnuts Flex-pass and FREE admission to Potter Park Zoo on Saturday, June 7. River Angel and Love Our Waterways stickers, and other items, will also be given for FREE.

This event is a collaboration between Michigan Waterways Stewards and River Town Adventures.
