This Twice-yearly Red Cedar River Cleanup is More Than Stewardship.
It's a Celebration of Community.

PictureEarly event partners and sponsors.
What started as a need to clean up a small bend in the Red Cedar River just east of campus has developed into Michigan's largest student-led community-wide waterways stewardship event. This spring 2026 event, led by MSU's Interfraternity Council, is being organized with the goal of conducting stewardship on and along the 6.3-mile stretch of our treasured Red Cedar River, from West Meridian Township to the confluence of the Grand River.

We're expecting a volunteer count greater than 200 this spring, making this event its largest yet. The work will include litter and trash pickup, parks beautification, Lansing River Trail grooming, and clearing any river-wide obstructions. When completed, this stretch of the Red Cedar River will be officially cleaned and cleared, looking its best and being most enjoyable to use.
