It's a Community-wide Event and Celebration

Because of our Red Cedar River’s rich history and traditions, importance to the connecting communities, join us next Saturday, November 11, for a community-wide event to celebrate our prized 51-mile Red Cedar River.

There will be a warm fire to help break the late-fall morning chill. Food, drinks, and hospitality will lift everyone's spirits. Guided river ecotours for those more adventurous. Canoes and kayaks available for those who wish to journey on their own. For those who wish to experience a new sport or refine their skills there will be fly fishing instructional. For those who wanting to conduct a little river stewardship and wish to try their hand at magnet fishing, supervised instructional will be offered as well.

It's A "Love Our Waterways Campaign" Launch!

As much as we all have the privilege to enjoy our shared waterways, we all have a shared responsibility to protect and care for them.

In response to the recent discovery of hundreds of electric scooters, bicycles, and other objects being tossed in, or making their way to, our treasured and vulnerable Red Cedar River, we are launching " Love Our Waterways" campaign on this Saturday, November 11.

Love Our Waterways encompasses awareness building, deterrence, enforcement, and river stewardship components. This campaign was created in collaboration with MSU student groups, MSU, City of East Lansing and Lansing officials, local business and civic groups, and others. It is being made with scalability in mind, to be adapted by cities and campuses across all of Michigan and the country.

A central component of this is the Red Cedar River Pledge, a pledge that be adopted to feature any river, lake, or waterway. It is a promise to protect, care, and to leave the Red Cedar River in better condition than we found it.

We are looking for 1,000 signatures, to demonstrate to all the strong interest in the health and care of our shared waterways, and in particular our iconic Red Cedar River.
